Helping Others Heal

Jane Maggard, the Change Your Life coordinator at Love INC, Gallatin County, recalls how a single mom “was mad at God but is now coming around, working on a relationship.” Another woman who wouldn’t leave the house is now able to complete her outdoor walks. They, along with nine others, completed REBOOT Recovery’s Trauma REBOOT program offered through Love INC this spring.

The free, 12-week, faith-based course helps people overcome traumatic life experiences through practical instruction and small-group discussion. It is “a program that helps people heal,” Maggard says. “People are not judged. They’re encouraged to share and receive support and encouragement.”

The program was so successful that participants are now taking REBOOT Advance, a follow-up trauma class. Love INC Executive Director Rob McCormack says, “The fact that the group wanted to continue on, to go even deeper in the program, speaks to the progress they have made.”

Love INC plans to offer the Trauma REBOOT class to the community each fall and spring, with the next program starting in September. The nonprofit also offers two other free courses, Faith and Finance and Love Your Kitchen.

“It’s amazing to see the positive impact on people,” Maggard says. “It’s life changing. Everyone is very grateful and lives have been affected for the better.”

Love In the Name of Christ is a partnership of area churches working together to serve the community’s most vulnerable. REBOOT Recovery programs are available throughout Montana to help people overcome trauma.

Serving Neighbors, Responsibly

Going above and beyond comes naturally to Gallatin County Love INC. A partnership of area churches, Love INC offers help to anyone in need. Food and personal care items, prayers, and children’s Easter baskets are among the ways Love INC provides for neighbors.

When COVID-19 hit Montana, Executive Director Rob McCormack put his scientist skills into action. A former clinical trials principal investigator for BioScience Laboratories, McCormack understands sanitization, safe materials handling, and protocols for running meetings and general operations. He recently presented webinars to Love INC organizations across the U.S. and nonprofits throughout Montana.

Today, Love INC counsels clients by phone or screen. Its regular Car Clinics are temporarily replaced by referrals to garages that need the work. And the organization is attaching gloves and hand sanitizer to the outside of donation boxes. “We want to continue to serve our neighbors in a responsible way,” McCormack says. “It’s in my heart to use my knowledge to help people.”

Eligibility Criteria

Tax status:  We only fund work done by organizations ruled to have tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Geographic location:  In most cases, our funding is limited to organizations in Montana.  We will occasionally provide funding to organizations that operate nationally, when their work aligns with our focus areas and impacts the nation as a whole.  We rarely fund work overseas unless we have a personal connection with the group doing the work.

Funding amounts:  We do not generally fund projects where we are the sole providers of funding, nor do we like to account for more than 50% of the budget for a project (and in most cases, less).  In addition, we prefer to start with smaller amounts for organizations that we have not worked with in the past.
